Material Overview
Lanthanum Hexaboride, or LaB6, is a purple-violet colored advanced ceramic material. It is water stable and has a rather high melting point. In addition, LaB6 has a low work function and one of the highest electron emissivities of any known material. One of the most common uses for LaB6 is hot cathodes. These cathodes are often coated with LaB6 sputter targets. Other hexaborides, such as cerium hexaboride, may have comparable characteristics.
Typical Features
High melting point
Insoluble in water and hydrochloric acid
High electron emissivity
Stable in vacuum
Types
sputtering target, ring, disc, cathode, filaments, plate, slab, tube, etc.
