In the ceramic family, ceramics made of Alumina have the following advantages: excellent wear resistance, high hardness, exceptional mechanical strength,excellent chemical stability and insulation,good dielectric properties, and high temperature resistance. Among all the purity levels of Alumina, 99.6% Alumina (Al2O3) is a preferred ceramic substrate due to its strong heat resistance, high mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, and low dielectric loss. Applications like high-frequency circuit boards (microwave, millimeter wave), radar circuit boards, ADAS radar, and antenna-in-package (AiP) circuits can all benefit from this low dielectric loss ceramic substrate.

 

The standard for thin film substrates and circuit production is 99.6% Alumina, which is frequently utilized for sputtered, evaporated, and chemically vapor deposited metals for circuit creation. The 99.6% Alumina's high purity and smaller grain size enable it to be more smooth with fewer surface flaws and to have a surface roughness of less than 1u-in. 99.6% Alumina has great electrical insulation, low thermal conductivity, high mechanical strength, outstanding dielectric characteristics, and good resistance to corrosion and wear. 99.6% polished Alumina substrate has outstanding flatness, tight thickness tolerance, and superior surface smoothness. 

 

But for 99.5% Alumina, it is employed in situations where lower grain size requirements are not as crucial. Due to the larger grain size, the 99.5% surface finish will have a maximum finish of 2u-in. In comparison to 99.6% Alumina, this substance exhibits a lower dielectric constant, dielectric strength, thermal conductivity, and flexural strength.
